| 30/10/2008 The Tour de France returns to Barcelona after 44 years |

44 years ago, the Tour de France, the world's most prestigious cycle race, passed through the Catalan capital. Barcelona City Council has announced that in 2009 the city will once again host a splendid stage finish and the following day's departure. Nearly half a century has passed since the city was last on the Tour schedule but now, finally, Barcelona will be on the route of the next edition.
The Tour will be arriving in Barcelona on 9 July and will race round part of the city before the finish of the Girona-Barcelona stage. The following day, 10 July, the race will leave Barcelona and head for the Pyrenees on a the way to the stage finish line in Andorra.
RPM will be responsible for all the coordination in Barcelona and following endorsement by the Volta Catalunya and the Nissan Titan Desert, it is set to formalise its presence on the world cycling scene with its participation in the most famous road cycle race of all. |
